This is kind of fun...

So I pretty much launched my site… after a month of coding and recoding and fixing and tweaking fixes and QA and coffee and pajamas at 3 p.m.  It’s kind of like finals, also because I do most of this in yoga pants or pajamas.  Also: I got asked to project manage / produce a second site for the same people.  So, yipee!

That being said, I’ve been so consumed by work that I saw fireworks at a grocery store the other day and thought, “Wow… Oregon is weird.” (Fireworks aren’t really popular in California as they are pretty much a guarantee that your hill will become an inferno.) Then two days later I saw some red white and blue crap at another store and realized the 4th of July isn’t just a date shortly after my site is available to pharmacists enrolled in the appropriate programs. (Sidenote: so happy to launch a site to a specific demo that can only see it with proper firewall access. I loved my gigs at entertainment / news groups but wow did those launches literally cause ulcers in my stomach.) And last night, while watching the Colbert Report, I learned the 4th of July is a couple days from now. I really didn’t put that together.  I was too busy worrying about why a font wasn’t turning green and why my javascript was being eaten by an evil CMS monster named Vignette.

So… I think I’m finally coming out from underwater and it feels good.  Apparently I live in a new city called “Portland” and I’ll be excited to report about it soon.  Possibly even from sections that aren’t 2 blocks from my home / office or the IKEA by the airport.

I wrote a rant today after hearing Democrats want Anthony Weiner to resign.

An Open Letter To Those Asking Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) To Resign:

Unless you are his wife, his friend, his family member or one of the women he had contact with through either Facebook, Twitter or another form of social media; THIS IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. I understand that what he did may be upsetting, but it is a private and personal matter.  Unless you are intimately involved, stay out.

The nature of Representative Weiner’s relationships were consensual, and they were legal.  And though they may be embarrassing when made public, they did not affect his ability to perform his job as a Representative of New York City in the United States Congress.

However, what *has* affected his performance is the barrage of attention and media coverage that his dalliances have been given. Prior to this “scandal,” Representative Weiner was gaining a significant ground in pressuring Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from any Tea Party-backed cases, specifically those involving the universal health care.

Judge Thomas, please do not use this scandal to sidestep what is a blatant conflict of interest for yourself and for this country. Recuse yourself from the pending cases.  Be a role model, and do the right thing.

Representative Pelosi, asking Anthony Weiner to step down because you believe his consensual relationships reflect poorly on your party is inexcusable.  You have made yourself and the Democratic Party look weak and petty. Your judgment and course of action in this non-scandal has made me seriously reconsider supporting you as a politician, as a liberal and as a feminist.

That being said, if I still lived in Brooklyn, I would be proud that Anthony Weiner was my Congressional representative — because of the work he has done in Washington, because of the incredible speeches he has given, because of the votes he has cast, because of his willingness to defend the causes I care about until he is quite literally blue in the face.  If I still lived in Brooklyn, I would vote for Anthony Weiner again — be it for a spot in Washington or one in City Hall.

Unfortunately as I now live on the other side of the country, I can only show my support in manners such as this.  I am not defending Anthony Weiner’s personal character, but supporting his public one.

Sincerely,

Lizz Westman

Dear Lizz, Do you like Jerry Springer or Steve Wilkos better? Also, I'm bored. What should I do?

I don’t know who Steve Wilkos is… Was that Springer’s old bodyguard? Do I have to pick, they both seem awful.

It’s June! Go pick flowers! I’m going to go take Oliver on a walk and photograph cute houses in my new neighborhood. Or… you could book a plane ticket to Portland and play with myself and Ms. Smith. Just a thought :)

I dunno, Lizz. I think you're not seeing how awesome the bay area is. And you're not looking in the right pretty places if you think its concrete jungle. But, whatever. Portlands nice too.

The Bay *is* nice.  And it *is* awesome.  It’s just not totally for me… and I can’t afford to spend that kind of money on a place I’m not that nuts about.  It’s great… just not for me and not at this point in my life.

The Hangover Part III (2013)

Phil, Stu and Doug return to Las Vegas for Phil’s wedding. Coincidentally, Alan is already there drugging random strangers. Alan: “I’m fat and I have a beard, Phil! Are we best friends? No drugs this time!” Phil and Stu invite him to their executive suite for beer…

Why are you moving to Portland??

I heard about this magical place where dogs are treated better than people, everything is vegetarian-friendly, you can walk or take public transit and it’s actually affordable. I visited and decided I liked it a lot. I also found a beautiful house in my price range. As my current job allows for me to telecommute, I am not required to live in a specific area and thought it would be in my best interests to move to a city that seems incredibly vibrant and suited to my needs.

I was generally unimpressed with the Bay Area — at least in regards to apartments and parking and safety. The culture is nice, but I cannot take my dog to a concrete jungle. And for that kind of money, I should live in New York again (which would be cruel to my dog-child). I do not enjoy the middle of the country and had no desire for Boston or DC so Portland seemed like a reasonable choice. And Los Angeles and I are currently on a break.
